Despite the great affection people have for raccoons, they are considered an invasive species in Europe. They can be killed without a permit and are only safe in specially designed aviaries.
The photo shows a close-up of one of the eight raccoons living in the animal sanctuary. Crowds of fans come there every weekend, bringing treats and enjoying the sight of them.
The raccoons return this affection and look trustingly at the humans, unaware of the danger lurking behind the walls of the shelter. Although photos and videos of them are becoming increasingly popular on the internet, raccoons are still being killed in the wild.
